Armed Man Who Wandered Down Bourke St Days After Attack To Face Charges

A man who strolled down Bourke Street Mall wearing a holstered pistol in the aftermath the fatal car attack on January 20 is expected to be charged over the incident.

It’s thought the unnamed man, who walked through crowds of mourners on January 25 with a semi-automatic weapon strapped to his leg, will be charged for possessing the gun without a licence.
He was also found to be without a valid licence to operate as a security contractor.
The security firm he worked for has also had its licences to operate and utilise firearms suspended, pending further investigation into the matter.
The Age reports the man wasn’t immediately confronted by police over the incident, despite the area being under heightened security at the time.
The paper alleges police weren’t informed of the matter until The Age provided them with photos of the man.
Police have not revealed the name of the company he was contracted to, who had employed their services, or why exactly he was there in the first place.

Six people died as a result of the car attack. The case of Dimitrious Gargasoulas, the man currently charged with five counts of murder after the attack, returned to court earlier this week.
