Sam Stosur Claims Wimbledon Victory In Mixed Doubles Tournament

All around legend Sam Stosur and her Serbian playing partner Nenad Zimonjic have claimed the mixed doubles title at Wimbledon, which is perhaps the most-maligned event on the fortnight’s calendar in terms of scheduling and cultural cachet.
Despite her early exit in the first round of the singles draw, Stosur and Zimonjic were able to trounce Max Mirnyi and Hao-Ching Chanwon 6-4, 6-2 in this morning’s final, which had the dubious honour of playing out after Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer’s five set masterclass overnight.
It’s Stosur’s second Wimbledon mixed doubles title and her fifth grand slam doubles title in total, having previously cleaned up at the Australian Open (’05), and in womens’ doubles titles at the US Open (’05) and Roland Garros (’06).
Speaking after the event, Stosur remarked, “I think leaving Wimbledon 2014, I’ll think of it as, yeah, a great memory, and leaving with a trophy at the end is fantastic,” which is a pretty far cry from the shuffling of yesteryear:
