I hate to be the one to tell you this, but that slug isn’t real. It has never existed in the real world, not even as a robot. In fact, the entire world around the slug is fake, too. Sorry about that.
It’s all part of the latest work by 3D artist, Rense de Boer, who uses a technique called photogrammetry to create insanely realistic environments in the Unreal Engine, which is popular for making video games.
It looks good as hell, right? Shit yeah it does, that’s because photogrammetry uses real-life photos of objects from a bunch of different angles to recreate an image that has realistic depth. A delicious scene. In terms of his background, de Boer used to be the technical art director at DICE, the company behind the Battlefield series. To create the masterpiece, he was given two GTX 1080 Ti graphics card by Nvidia. For the lesser nerds out there, this is one of the best graphics processors currently on the market.
