After a successful launch in Sydney, Uber is set to launch its carpool service, UberPool, in Melbourne this Monday the 11th of June.
If you’ve never used the option before, UberPool lets you share a ride with someone heading in the same direction as you, letting you shave up to 50 per cent off the price of what a regular Uber would have cost you.
While saving money is the obvious perk here, it also helps reduce congestion on the roads which, if you live in Sydney, is probably the most infuriating aspect of getting around, closely followed by having to sniff other peoples’ hair on insanely packed trains every morning.
When you select the UberPool option in your app, all you need to do is request a ride and wait a few minutes to be matched with someone in your area travelling the same direction as you. Once that’s done, you’ll be given a pickup point to walk to. This reduces detour time so the trip is as efficient as it can be. You share the ride with your new friend and will be dropped off at a location central to both of you, so a little walking is required, but hey, it’ll do you good.
So if you’re keen to give it a red hot go on Monday morning, the service area extends from Coburg in the north, to Hawthorn, down to Balaclava in the south and then to Footscray in the west.
Pool on, folks.
