Nintendo will begin selling a mini version of their popular SNES console in September, but they may already be planning a mini N64. YES PLEASE.
The company recently filed a bunch of new patents which hint at a return of their most memorable gaming system. Given the huge success of the mini NES, the move isn’t exactly surprising, but it’s fucking excellent, nonetheless.
Of course, nothing’s been confirmed yet and seeing as we’re only just about to see the mini SNES, this one’s probably a little while off.
Nintendo filed four trademarks with the European Union Intellectual Property Office on July 18, all relating to various console controllers. The NES, SNES and Switch controllers were included along with the highly nostalgic N64 one. The picture below was included in the file.
As you can imagine, some gamers are freaking the fuck out over the potential console revival while others speculate.
The Nintendo 64 was released in 1996 and hosted some of the best games ever created, including The Legend of Zelda (both Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask), GoldenEye, Banjo-Kazooie and Perfect Dark.
The company’s recent spate of re-released classic consoles is certainly an easy cash-grab, so it makes sense that they’ll continue the trend. At least we fucking hope so.
