Facebook’s Testing A Way To Keep Shitty Spoilers From Your Precious Eyes

There’s nothing worse than scrolling through your news feed only to find some soulless fuck has posted a massive spoiler from your favourite TV show, sending you into a blind rage. We’ve all been there.

Luckily, Facebook is testing a way for you to block that shit out of your news feed for a set time. Announced by the company today, the snooze option will allow users to temporarily hide posts based on keywords. To use a current example, you could snooze the keyword ‘Westworld‘ if you’re yet to get your eyes around the show’s finale and wanna avoid spoilers.

If you happen to be part of Facebook’s test, you’ll be able to access the feature from the list of options that appear when you click on the top right hand corner of a post. Selecting “Snooze keywords in this post” will give you a list of options that are present in the post you accessed the feature from.

While users have been able to snooze all content from a specific user for 30 days since late last year, this will let you block certain content from everyone for 30 days, no matter who posts it.

But here’s the thing – there’s no way to manually enter keywords to snooze, which means you’ll have to find a post containing those keywords before you’ll be able to block them. It seems like a lousy method, considering the first post you see could very well be a big fat spoiler, making the feature redundant to you immediately.

One way around this would be to create a nothing post with the keywords in it and using that. Alternatively, you can wait for Facebook to implement an option to input your own keywords, which the company told TechCrunch could be a possibility moving forward.

It’s unclear when this will rollout to the masses, but fingers crossed it’s before the final season of Game of Thrones starts.
