OG ‘Doom’ Designer John Romero Is Announcing A New FPS Tomorrow

John Romero, the co-founder of id Software and designer of the original Doom, has announced that he’s finished work on a new game and will be revealing it in full tomorrow.

Very little is known about the title at this stage other than it’s been teased with the slogan, “prepare for 5”. I’m sure it’ll make more sense in the context of whatever is revealed, but PC Gamer points out that it could be a reference to Doom, which consists of four episodes (with the updated version of Ultimate Doom). Could it be a new Doom episode?

Tomorrow (or today in Australia if you wanna get technical) also marks the 25th anniversary of Doom’s release. Fans recently received an email with the details which also says they’ll also be able to pre-order whatever is announced.

“To celebrate this momentous occasion, Romero Games will announce pre-orders for a project John Romero just completed,” the email said.

Romero, who left id Software in the 90s, founded his own company in 2015, but he’s been working on a new first-person shooter since 2014. He’s also been teasing the new project recently via his Instagram account.

Romero Games currently has two games, a re-skinned version of Dangerous Dave in the Deserted Pirate’s Hideout and something called Gunman Taco Truck, which just sounds insane.

Fingers crossed we get word on something cool tomorrow.
