Some users of the 4chan message board believe a mysterious post on the notorious website could be connected to Wednesday’s terror attack in London that has left 5 people dead.
Appearing at about 3pm on Tuesday the 21st of March, the post contained an image of 2 handguns and a long string of Morse code. The user was flagged as Danish, but they may have been using a VPN to mask their true location.
The code translates to “gotohttp://pastebin.com/zluxdmza,” a website that contains a string of binary code that when deciphered, gives the GPS coordinates for a location close to Big Ben, near to where the attack occurred.
The page was made via a Pastebin guest account, which does not allow them to amend posts and as such, could not have been changed after the incident.
A number of 4chan users fear the site may be shut down as they began speculating about the connection between the post and attack.
The image of the handguns was taken from a post made back in 2010 and has “/pol/ 21-03-2017” clumsily edited onto the note below them.
4chan is a message board website that doesn’t require registration, allowing users to post anonymously. Created in 2003, the site is well known for its influence on internet subculture and strong links to internet activism, notably via hacktivist group Anonymous.
4chan owner Hiroyuki Nishimura says they’re ready to “respond for law enforcement agency”.
