The Graffiti Lover’s Guide To Unveiling Berlin’s Best Street Art (Part Two: Poster Art)

Need an introduction to where to find the best and broodiest street art in the aerosol lovers’ paradise of Berlin? Look no further than our man on the street and Contiki Insider Andrew Kaineder. We’re pleased as pilsner to bring you the second of four instalments in Andrew’s Guide To Unveiling The Street Art of Berlin. Following on from Andrew’s previous guide to unearthing the city’s greatest graffiti, today we’re taking a crash course by means of a photo diary in the city’s poster art, a presence nearly as ubiquitous as the city’s love for not picking up dog waste, techno and wurst vendors.
Don’t forget, your final chance to join Andrew and his ilk as the final Contiki Insider on one of four incredible Latin American adventures to immerse yourself into the culture, people, sights and sounds and report back for a series of Insider posts on Pedestrian closes today, Monday December 9th. More details after the jump.

Whether it’s summer or winter, there are always a million and two parties happening in Berlin. It’s pretty difficult not to stop mid-walk down the street without almost choking on your felafel, gasping at the posters smacking you in the face with info on your favourite DJs/bands playing at arguably some of the best venues in the world.

The insane amount of parties happening at any one time in Berlin is made all the more obvious when you see the volume of posters that pile up on Warschauer Straße.

Sheet by sheet layered on empty walls, telegraph poles and electricity boxes create perfect paper mache sculptures all over the city after it rains. The ghosts of good times past are left in these sculptures and fuel the fire for amazing times to come.

Amidst the seductively designed posters and perfectly spaced graphics, there’s also a broad mix of street visuals. From tacky Shawarma graphics of the kind seen at Görlitzer Bahnhof (below) to soaring hand-painted advertisements plastered on the sides of buildings.

There’s plenty of eye candy and inspiration everywhere you look – if you keep your eyes peeled – to keep you engaged in the city’s spirit and history. One place that is a must is the Kinderbauernhof (Kindergarten, or Children’s Farm) in Görlitzer Park, hiding within which are all the weed dealers.
