Nothing tests the style set’s respect for / dedication to a fashion brand than asking people to travel cross-city to see a show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia – especially when most are conveniently housed within Sydney’s Carriageworks, and you’re not among the 1% of editors / stylists / special guests that get to cruise from location to location in a private car.
That’s why there’s added pressure on designers who *do* decide to show their collection off-site – that is, away from the close comfort of Carriageworks – to make it worth the commute time, by pulling out all the stops when it comes to Instagram-worthy sets.
We give you PEDESTRIAN.TV’s pick of this year’s MBFWA shows that dared to drift and fkn nailed it.
ON FUCK-OFF BOAT | CAMILLA
You might curse her kaftans, but there’s not denying Camilla Franks knows how to put on a show.
She debuted her ‘Jambo, Jambo’ Resort 17 collection on the sunny decks of superyacht Seadeck, which took guests around Sydney Harbour.
It was 7:30am, but luckily there were more than enough pairs of sunglasses to shield peoples’ eyes from both UV rays and SOMUCHCOLOURJESUSFUCKINGCHRIST.

ATOP A SKYSCRAPER’S ATRIUM | DION LEE
Sure, well-heeled guests had to wait 40 minutes for one elevator to beam them to the top of the 28-storey Bloomberg Building in Sydney’s CBD, but boy oh boy was the backdrop worth it.
Dion Lee‘s crystal-coated clothes were the perfect accompaniment to the tree-lined rooftop atrium of the skyscraper, which *has* to be one of the city’s schmanciest workplaces and in which we’d happily live for the rest of our lives if only for the A+ city view.
10/10.

UNDER THE SYDNEY HARBOUR BRIDGE | MANNING CARTELL
Asking people to travel across the Harbour Bridge during peak hour traffic is a BIG ask. Like, HUGE.
But a clear blue sky and a backdrop of the city’s best architectural gems make it *really* hard to remember you’ve got a bad case of road rage, so big ups to Manning Cartell.
The Resort 17 preso directly underneath the bridge at Milson’s Point was a breath of fresh air, both figuratively and literally. Oh, and incorporating IRL train noises into the show’s soundtrack? Genius.

IN A HOTEL PENTHOUSE | P.JAMÉ
The launch party for hot AF couple Dan Single (ex-Ksubi) and Bambi Northwood-Blyth‘s sleepwear label P.Jamé (pronounced pee-jah-may, in true farshun style) was essentially one giant pillow fight.
Special guest model Winnie Harlow, twinsies Zac and Jordan Stenmark, Tahnee Atkinson and Inka Williams ran amok in silky pjs, boxers, slips and onesies at the slumber party-themed live installation at The Boudoir in Sydney’s The Ivy, plaiting hair, taking polaroids and slugging each other with duck feather Europeans.

AT A GIANT MANSION | ROMANCE WAS BORN
Jaysusssssssssss – we still have chills from the amazingly eccentric Romance Was Born presentation at Elizabeth Bay‘s famous manor house Carthona.
Built back in 1841, the heritage-listed, Gothic-style sandstone mansion was the ultimate backdrop for designers Anna Plunkett and Luke Sales‘ feathered, ruffled, embellished, dramatic designs.
Brb, moving in to drink champagne / look faboosh 4eva.
