The roster of 34 models included highly-popular YouTuber, Gigi Gorgeous, as well as Trace Lysette from Transparent, and Dominique Jackson and Angelica Ross from Pose.

It’s not uncommon for transgender, non-binary, gender non-conforming, and genderfluid models to walk runways at high-end fashion shows – and typically not disclose their gender identity – but having a whole runway show with a full production of trans models walking down the coveted stage at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City is breaking new ground for the industry, and representation of trans folk worldwide.

Marco Marco spoke about his decision to make his casting inclusive in an interview with Mic after the show, citing his many years producing runway shows as an eye-opening experience for transgender representation in fashion.

Although I have always had trans and non binary people in my shows, it became apparent to me that their presence was often overshadowed by cis gay men or cis gay men in drag. I wanted to create a space to celebrate trans bodies. This was an opportunity for their presence to be undeniable and reinforce that trans is beautiful.

Spotted in the crowd of the Marco Marco show were actor and professional chef, David Burtka, fashion’s first lay of nails/claws, Jan Arnold. Originator of the selfie/owner of many teeny dogs, Paris Hilton, was also spotted backstage before ducking off to the Harper’s Bazaar Icons Ball.
