Marc By Marc Jacobs To Be Discontinued, Absorbed By Chic Older Sibling Marc Jacobs

Fashion may well be penning the obituary for industry stalwart Marc By Marc Jacobs, as the label is reportedly set to be discontinued and absorbed by its chicer, more expensive older sibling and namesake, Marc Jacobs.

Discontinuing a line that is—by all intents and purposes—a goal-kicking stand-alone label for thirsty women with enough cash to match the reasonable price tags?

Women’s Wear Daily filed the report this morning regarding the potential shutting up shop of M by MJ, and at this stage the news is still in the rumour phase: the label hasn’t confirmed either way if they’re fashioning a headstone just yet.

WWD claims that the label will be discontinued by folding into Marc Jacobs’ collection, allowing for a range of price points—relatively affordable price tags may still stay—while providing a united branding front and bigger range. The label was launched onto the scene in Spring 2001, and recently has been helmed by Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley.

If the rumour does evolve to be fact, then shut up, take my money, and give me all the statement watches you have.

RIP, elegant friend.
