The appearance of Delphine Arnault (the daughter of LVMH chairman Bernard Arnault) frontrow at Gareth Pugh’s Paris menswear show lead many to believe that the British designer was next in line to helm Dior Homme.
It has now been revealed that Delphine’s presence is due to LVMH’s role in financing Pugh’s shows and fostering him as talent for potential collaborations/appointments in the future. Bernard Arnault confirmed as much by saying “He’s an interesting designer, and it’s good to support him Don’t ask me for the exact amount. But LVMH does that with many talented people, even musicians.”
With backing by LVMH and mentoring by designers such as Rick Owens it seems that Pugh is poised to take the fashion world by storm – artistically and commercially. His recent menswear collection displayed a technical ability and design acumen that impressed many and surprised none, with Pugh greatness is expected. Perhaps he is the only candidate for Dior Homme creative director with the potential to surpass even Hedi Slimane. Only time will tell.
