Police in Sydney have established a “large crime scene” at the base of cliffs at Coogee Beach, after the body of an unidentified man was discovered there early this morning.
A member of the public reportedly made the discovery just after 7am local time, and contacted emergency services, who rushed to the scene near Giles Baths.
At this stage, the cause of the man’s death is unclear, however, an area at the northern end of the beach has been cordoned off by police.
UPDATE: Per Daily Telegraph reports, the man, believed to be in his 50s, is thought to have washed up on rocks overnight. He was found without ID or belongings, a short distance from where a surf lifesaving carnival was set to begin.
We’ll keep you updated with more information as it comes to light.
