Grazia X Target Fashion Line: The Verdict

The collaborative clothing line between fashion magazine Grazia Australia and Target has landed in stores around Australia. The capsule collection called ‘Hot Options exclusively for Grazia’ includes 12 pieces priced between $49 and $119.

When Pedestrian chatted to Grazia Australia editor Kellie Hush about the partnership she told us the designs were influenced by the strong summer trends from the Spring/Summer 2011-12 season and that, despite the impressively low price tags, “the quality [of the clothes] is really good”.

The collection is the focus of an editorial in this week’s issue of Grazia, modeled by Sarah Stephenson and styled in line with the Grazia aesthetic: combining the Target pieces with high-end accessories.

Let’s take a look at a few of the key looks from the range…

LOOK 1: THE MAXI-DRESS.
The Story: Kellie told Pedestrian that the Grazia design team had not originally included a maxi-style dress in the collection because it wasn’t a big look in the Fashion Week collections, but it made the range because “Target really know what their customers want and what they will buy – like a maxi-dress – so we came up with a maxi-dress design.”
The Trend: Colour blocking.
How To Wear: Strong accessories – like hardware details on shoes or jewellery – this dress can be proper fierce. Gladiator flats and scant makeup are good for day time.
Price: Sunray pleated maxi dress $119

LOOK 2: MINI.
The Trend: Prints. The ‘spilled paint’ print is one we recognise from Josh Goot’s Spring/Summer 2012 where structured white sheaths with meticulously smeared colour strokes appeared on the runway. The pastel blots later appeared on mini dresses at Aminaka Wilmot’s London Fashion Week show.
How To Wear: “Hot Legs” is a song by Rod Stewart and recommended with this look.
Price: Printed low back dress $69 (a bargain!)

LOOK 3: TAILORED JACKET
The Trend: Tailored Jacket. Animal Print. From giant cows at House Of Holland to rainbow-layers of reptilian scales at Jenny Packham and Isabel Marant, animal print was spotted (and striped) on runways around the globe this season. As for the blazer? – No longer just for power dressing!
How To Wear: These two guys actually look pretty cute together (see below).
Price: Printed tank dress $59, Structured jacket $79

I’m pretty sold on the idea of a cute tange’ jacket for under $100. If you’re mad on a bargain – or just straight-up poor – check out the entire range at www.target.com.au.
