Bad News, Booty Short Fans: American Apparel Is Officially Dunzo Down Under

Bad news if you’re a massive fan of disco booty shorts and A-Line skater skirts – it looks like American Apparel is pretty much dunzo in Australia
Seriously. Dunzo.
Anyone who has in the last 24 hours panicked and headed to the American Apparel AU site in order to purchase a last-minute swimsuit for summer, would have found this message instead:
Turns out that American Apparel has actually just filed for their second round of bankruptcy, and reportedly, are likely to soon become a Canadian-owned company after being purchased by Gildan
The seemingly popular company filed for bankruptcy for the first time in October 2015, and since had very public clashes with controversial former CEO Dov Charney.
The bricks and mortar stores are in voluntary administration and are currently closing, too.
Stores in Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne are liquidating stock, and The Daily Tele reported that administrator McGrath Nicol have been appointed to take control of the remaining stores, which will allegedly close following sales.
An American Apparel employee who declined to be named told the Tele,
“Guys in suits just walked in and said they were taking control of the company, closed the doors and held a meeting to brief everyone.

The stores are going to be closed, the administrators were pretty definite about that, so we are concerned we will lose our jobs.”

Up to 100 Aussie employees are said to lose their jobs.
We’ll update you as soon as more information arises on this story.
