The McLaren-Honda driver clipped Esteban Gutierrez’ rear-left tire during lap 18 at the Albert Park circuit, before smashing into the barrier and flipping twice into the track’s gravel traps.

As a result of the debris that absolutely littered the track, the race was temporarily postponed; it’s been restarted now, hopefully without any more bloody near-death experiences for its competitors.
Before the red flag was waved, Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel was in first place, followed by Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg and Vettel’s teammate Kimi Raikkonen. Australia’s own Daniel Ricciardo has powered his way into fourth.
