The World Reacts To The Tragic Passing Of Phillip Hughes

The shockingly sad news of Phillip Hughes‘ passing following injuries sustained in a freak accident during Tuesday’s Sheffield Shield match has hit cricket and sports loving people, both home and abroad, exceedingly hard.

Perhaps its because of his youth, or because it was in the line of doing the thing he loved most, or maybe because of the result of such an innocuous occurrence – one we’ve all seen countless times before, one we’ve grown up knowing as routine, one we’ve on occasion bayed for. But whatever the reason, his untimely death registers as inarguably the saddest moment in the history of our national summer pastime.
The national, and international, cricketing community has reacted in much the same way, with social media providing a welcome outlet to publicly express sorrow and grief.
From former players, sporting institutions, colleagues, media, and mates alike, here’s how people have reacted.

And, perhaps most poignantly of all, these sentiments from journalist Mike Carlton.

A truly tragic day for everyone who grew up with a ball in one hand, and a bat in the other.
