SE QLD, REJOICE: Public Transport Is Free This Sat Thanks To The AFLW GF

Take note, south-east Queensland. For the first – and likely last – time in recorded history, a public transportation mix-up is going to play out in your favour.

In honour of the historic AFL Women’s Grand Final, every train, bus and ferry trip in the region will be free this Saturday. We’ve gotta stress that doesn’t merely apply to those heading to the Gold Coast’s Metricon Stadium, oh no. You’re all getting free trips, mates.

Standard protocol calls for ticket-holders to major sporting events to be granted free public transportation, but since the blockbuster clash between the Brisbane Lions and Adelaide Crows is a free and ticket-free event, the State Government saw no feasible way to determine who will actually be heading along.

So, you’re all getting a literal free pass.

Deputy Premier and Transport Minister Jackie Trad explained it’ll actually be an especially grouse day to permit free transit. Trad said the combo of the game’s significance, its late change of venue, and other AFL, A-League and NRL games occurring on the same day means it makes sense for Saturday’s trips to be free.

For everyone keen on taking advantage of this absolute ~ blessing ~, the game kicks off at 1pm AEST. There’s now even less reason for you to avoid scoping out a final which, at the very least, will make Aussie sporting history.
