Novak Djokovic Fends Off Roger Federer To Claim Victory At Wimbledon

Novak Djokovic has sent Roger Federer packing, and taken out victory in the historic Wimbledon tournament. The Serb won the final 7-6 (7-1) 6-7 (10-12) 6-4 6-3, snaring his third Wimbledon title, and denying Federer the chance to nab his eighth.
The victory was an especially sweet one for Djokovic, as it took place on his first wedding anniversary. Upon victory, he punched the air in celebration, then leaned down to pluck and eat a few blades of grass from the court, as has become his thing.
“It tasted very, very good this year,” he said, after being presented with his trophy. “I don’t know what the groundspeople have done this year but they’ve done a great job.”
Federer led for much of the first set, but then his game dropped off, and he later told the media it’s a “pity” he couldn’t make more of his momentum.
This victory is Djokovic’s ninth in a major tournament, placing him in the number seven spot on the all-time grand slam winners list. Federer remains the number one, with 17 tournament victories over the course of his career.
Yesterday, Serena Williams took out the women’s title, and none other than J.K. Rowling came to her defence on Twitter when someone tried to have a crack.
Elsewhere, Nick Kyrgios has criticised Pat Rafter for his “negative” comments, after a recent interview in which he lamented the sense of “entitlement” surrounding younger players no the circuit.
