In the rarest of interview opportunities conducted while careening through the streets of Berkley, CA, ordering drive-through, and stalking the aisles of his local bodega, we just got off the phone with Bay Area positivity beacon, hip hop enigma, published author and the man with a million Myspace accounts, Lil B, aka Brandon McCartney aka Based God, to discuss the premise behind his new book (“I’ve got the bare bones of it. It’s going to be another positive book on positivity and getting people together,”), his first proper album under Lil B (“I’ve been working on this album for like four years and it’s like 40% done,”) and unpack his feelings about the defeat of his hometown Golden State Warriors in the 2013 NBA post-season (“it was kind of rough”).
When asked about Australia though, the country Lil B is set to visit for the first time ever next week, the most positive human being in hip hop didn’t have much to say until we reminded him that a surly seven foot Melburnian named Andrew Bogut played at centre for his beloved Golden State Warriors.
“Man I love Andrew Bogut,” he said. “I got love for Australians. He’s out here playing, you know, it’s all good. I was actually on Andrew Bogut’s Twitter account not too long ago just checking him out. Andrew Bogut is based.”
Take note, Andrew Bogut. You have officially been cosigned.
Last year, Lil B tried out for Golden State’s affiliate D-League team the Santa Cruz Warriors but didn’t make the cut.
