Jarryd Hayne’s Agent Reckons He ‘Over-Exceeded’ In 49ers’ Write-Off Season

Any player agent worth their massive commission would defend their client, but Jarryd Hayne’s U.S. agent Jack Bechta has consistently gone above and beyond in defending his precious Australian star amid the San Francisco 49ers absolute dumpster-fire of a season.

To say it’s been a tumultuous year for Hayne and the 49ers is flat-out disrespectful of the concept of “messed up.” The franchise, which made it all the way to the Super Bowl in 2012, saw a ravaging string of injuries royally fuck-up the team’s regular line-ups. Once-star quarterback Colin Kaepernick was sidelined from the end of November; more pressingly for Jay-Hay, Reggie Bush and Mike Davis – who slot into Hayne’s preferred running back spot – alternated between first-team play and riding pine for stints as well.

Oh, they just axed their head coach Jim Tomsula too, as a sacrifice to the bloodthirsty football gods in recompense for his team’s 5-11 season.

All of that means that the dude was bounced around the full 53-man roster and the training squad for a disconcertingly long chunk of the regular season. Not great for any player, let alone a newbie in the game – and Bechta reckons Hayne’s done a bang-up job considering the circumstances.

The dude called it like it is, saying “here is the thing that people don’t realise, when he was on practice squad he kept getting better and better… he did this in an environment that was highly dysfunctional with the changes – eventually head coach and quarterback – at the team.”

While it might be overly optimistic to write the past year up basically faultless for Hayne, who essentially put up middling stats after a blistering pre-season, Bechta says “it was more than anybody expected, at least in North America, and that he had  “over-exceeded expectations.”

He’s still signed on to the team’s active list, so there’s every chance we’ll see him in the red-and-gold again. Then again, Bechta’s sweet-talking alone might just do it. Until then, watch this on repeat and tell yourself it’s going to be alright:

GO YOU GOOD THING!Behold the best moment in Jarryd Hayne’s NFL career so far.
