UP THE HAWKS.
Pour one up, Melbourne: Hawthorn have nailed it on home soil – bringing home their third premiership in a row at the MCG, crushing the West Coast Eagles 107 – 61 during the hottest AFL Grand Final on record.
Hawthorn is the sixth in AFL history to take home a hat-trick premiership, and the first club to do so since 2003.
Less than 30 minutes in and the Hawks were leading 30-11; the Eagles defence couldn’t match Hawthorn’s charge, quickly leading to a deficit that would require a history-making turnaround for the former to secure a victory.
20 minutes into the second quarter, 3AW’s Tony Leonard called it, saying, “This game’s just about dead”.
West Coast will need to equal the greatest grand final comeback in history if they are to win today (44-point deficit) #AFLGF @RealFooty1
