Aussie Cycling Legend Anna Meares Makes History, Claims 11th World Track Cycling Title

Aussie cycling hero and one of Australia’s most successful sportswomen we’re stoked to call our own, Anna Meares, has become the most successful female track cyclist in history overnight, after taking home her eleventh world track cycling title in Paris. What a bloody legend!

At the World Track Cycling Championships held in Paris, Meares secured her 11th gold medal, boosting her overall medal tally to 26, effectively bumping the previous world-record holder Chris Hoy out of the top place. In terms of gold medals, however, Meares will have to score 3 more to equal the current world record holder, Frenchman Arnaud Tournant. There’s still time!

“What an absolute gem! She’s been an absolute role model for our girls and a role model for the sport to be honest with you. And certainly one of the greats,” Meares’ coach Gary Sutton said.

Aside from Meares’ win, Aussie Annette Edmonson took home the women’s Ominum title.
