Women Hit By Auburn Deputy Mayor’s Ferrari Settle For $1.72 Million

A mother and daughter who were hit by Salim Mehajer‘s Ferrari when he drove onto a footpath in Lidcombe have successfully settled their claim against him, winning $1.72 million.

Nhu Ha and Tuyet La were rushed to hospital after the January 2012 incident, suffering from serious leg and pelvis injuries that required surgery at Westmead Hospital.
The pair brought civil proceedings against the Auburn Deputy Mayor last year, and the case was set for its first hearing this coming Monday November 9.
Overnight, however, it emerged that the matter had settled privately around four weeks ago, with NRMA, Mejaher’s insurer at the time, paying out $1.72 million to the mother and daughter.
Mehajer claimed that he was not speeding at the time of the accident, but that he lost control of his car when another pedestrian walked out in front of him.
He was nonetheless sentenced to 150 hours’ community service as a result of the crash, and slapped with a one-year driving ban, although his conviction was later overturned on appeal.
The women’s lawyer did not comment on the exact settlement amount, but said:
“We have successfully resolved both claims and are pleased with the significant compensation outcome achieved for both our clients.”
