WikiKeaks editor-in-chief Julian Assange has reached semi rock star as the liberator of worldwide classified material and news leaks, but on Friday 29 July he was given a rock star reception after his public address at Splendour In The Grass. The pre-recorded speech was part of a discussion panel at the Splendour Forum about lifting the lid on the powers struggling for control of the internet. After waxing poetic about his time growing up as a child in Byron Bay, Assange delivered a stirring rhetoric about what makes our generation “cooler”: “This generation is burning the mass media to the ground. We’re reclaiming our rights to world history. We are ripping open secret archives from Washington to Cairo… Find every perspective you can, you’ll need it in the adventure ahead.”
