Twitter Introduces ‘While You Were Away’ Feature

Everyone’s favourite 140-character bandit, Twitter, has launched into 2015  with a new feature that they think might give them the edge over other social networks with a deeper hue of blue in their logo (*cough*).

‘While You Were Away’ is Twitter’s way of dealing with a reverse chronological timeline that seems to be in continual churn. Unlike Facebook, there’s no algorithm at work here (short of a view Sponsored posts), so if you miss something on Twitter, chances are it’s really gone. (Not Yeezus rants though. They get retweeted a lot.)
This feature will pin what Twitter considers to be the most #relevant tweets to the top of your timeline, so you can get back to the very important business of being king/queen of the Internet next time you commit the cardinal sin of leaving your phone at home while you go to the beach. To put this into context, there are more than 500 million tweets pushed out a day, and there’s probably lots of Miley Cyrus gold in there that could be bringing joy to you and your loved ones.
Sorry, we had to.
The service will be rolled out gradually to all users. Meanwhile, follow us! We’re over here.
