Toshiba Have Created A Robot That Greets Shoppers, Is Utterly Terrifying

Toshiba have created a robot that stands in a Japanese department store and greets customers.

That sounds fine… Like one of those information stands that tells you where things are, right? NOPE.

ChiharaAico looks like a human being, with natural looking skin. She is super lifelike and will no doubt confuse the shit out of people. She blinks, she nods, she moves, she speaks.
At the moment, ChihiraAico can’t yet answer questions, and can only go through her prerecorded greeting, but Toshiba are working on it.

“We are aiming to develop a robot that can gradually do what a human does,” said Hitoshi Tokuda, chief specialist at Toshiba.

The standard of customer service in this Mitsukoshi flagship store is top quality and this is a great opportunity to see what role our humanoid can play in this kind of environment.”
