The Bolt Report Derps It, Captions Abbott With “Mission To Destroy”

We’ve barely reached a full day when #AbbottLovesAnal isn’t trending on Twitter, and already there’s another amusing mishap that involves ‘Tony Abbott‘ and ‘TV Captions’ and ‘Screenshots That Will Resurface For Years To Come’.

On Sunday morning, an unusual caption appeared on Network Ten’s “The Bolt Report” – a show not known for swinging left politically – under a clip of our great Prime Minister, the Tony Abbott himself.

Now, this screenshot came from a segment on The Bolt Report about the Islamic State. Abbott is on a mission to destroy the Islamic State, you guys. Not a non-specific mission of destruction like some kind of budgie smuggler-clad Godzilla chanting “stop the boats” while it gobbles up ABC executives like popcorn. Just the Islamic State.

But you still have to wonder: who wrote it, who approved it, and who failed to notice this amusing moment of serendipity before they went to air.

In a wonderful twist of fate, The Bolt Report spent several minutes that same episode on the #AbbottLovesAnal fandango. They thoroughly analysed the behind-the-scenes process that goes into selecting what text appears on screen, and came to the conclusion that it was a deliberate and malicious attempt to smear Tony Abbott’s good name.

As journalist for The Australian Gerard Henderson fatefully said: “These things don’t happen by accident.”

If you say so, Gerard.
