Thailand Reveals Plan To Promote The Flooded Cave As A Legit Tourist Hotspot

Rescuing an entire soccer team trapped inside a flooded cave is one thing. Saving their lives while also making a quick buck? Well, that’s just grouse – and it’s what Thai authorities reportedly have planned for the kids holed up inside the Tham Luang cavern.

The Bangkok Post reports the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) will promote the cave as a key feature of the Chiang Rai region, in preparation for an influx of visitors captivated by the ongoing rescue operation.

Karuna Dechatiwong, TAT’s Chiang Rai director, said “after the rescue team found the 12 young football players and their coach on Monday night, the cave has become of interest for both local and foreign travellers.”

Dechatiwong said TAT is keen to operate a new route up to the cave to serve increased interest in the area, along with other routes to nearby destinations and communities around the Khun Nam Nang Non Forest Park.

Officials have also discussed providing a special hospitality package for the rescue workers attempting to help the folks stuck in the flooded hole.

As it stands, rescue workers are faced with a worryingly small number of possibilities for extricating the kids and their coach. When they are out, though, they may have access to a swish new range of cave sightseeing packages. God knows they’d want to revisit.
