Semi-Permanent Launches In Melbourne

With sell-out events in Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and Auckland since its 2003 inception, annual design conference Semi-Permanent has slyly neglected one Australian capital from its celebration of all things design. Yes Melbourne I’m talking about you. But maybe that’s a good thing. Depriving Melbourne of a national event that conveniently overlooks their residents if anything, should breed some empathy in our cultural capital. That is, Melbourne now knows what it’s like to be Brisbane. And I can say that as a former resident of the Sunshine State who missed out on way too many touring sideshows.

Well Melburnians, you can stop weeping into your undersized beers because Semi-Permanent is launching in your beautiful city on the 9th of October. For the uninitiated, think “Porn Convention” with the modifier “Design” in front of “Porn” and you’re halfway there. Semi-Permanent celebrates all forms of design including Graphic Design, Film, Art, Illustration, Web Design, Photography, Visual Effects, Animation, Graffiti, Motion Graphics and Stop Motion and wrangles the World’s brightest creatives to turn your mind grapes into mush.

Confirmed speakers thus far include: Jasper Goodall, Jeff Soto, Grafik Magazine, Industrial Light and Music, Three Drunk Monkeys, Luke Lucas, Tara McPherson, Collider, Keith Schofield and Chris Colls. Check out the details below and to get you in the mood, a montage video from this year’s Sydney event…
