Refugee Dies In Brisbane Hospital From Injuries Sustained On Manus Island

A refugee has died at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital due to injuries sustained from a fall and seizure at the Manus Island offshore detention facility.

The Department of Immigration confirmed the death of the 27-year-old Sudanese refugee, who was identified by the Refugee Action Coalition as ‘Faysal.’

He had been airlifted from the detention centre to Australia on Friday afternoon.

In a statement, the Department confirmed a report into Faysal’s death will be prepared for the Queensland Coroner.

We’ll update this story as it develops.
