Random ‘Grandma’ Comes Through On Thanksgiving Meal After Invite Mix-Up

Look, Thanksgiving is probs the American holiday least likely to take a foothold in Australia, but we’d be willing to give it a one-year trial run if we could be guaranteed a celebratory feast as #blessed as this one.

Jamal Hinton went ahead and rocked up to Wanda Dench’s Thanksgiving chow-down a lil’ earlier today in Phoenix, Arizona, but that meet-up was actually notable ’cause they were total strangers just over a week ago.

Teenager Hinton received a random misnumbered text message from Dench on the 16th, detailing her Thanksgiving plans. Hinton replied with the equivalent of a “who dis?”, to which Dench replied “your grandma.”

He cleared the sitch up, but still asked for a plate. She said yes with squee-inducing fervour. From that moment forward, despite having zero relationship to Hinton, Dench effectively signed herself up for honorary grandmotherhood.

Then, the exchange was posted on Twitter, and it went ballistic.

After Dench was bombarded with messages (don’t stress, the number included in Hinton’s tweet has since been nixed), they actually tee’d the meeting up. Today, it happened, and the footage will warm the cockles of your tech-jaded heart:

Hinton told news crews who’d caught wind of the mix-up that “I’d never seen her before and she welcomed me into her home.

“That shows me how great of a person she is, I’m thankful for people like that.”
A shot of the two cemented their newfound m8ship:

Now, if you’ll excuse us, we’ll be firing off invites to strangers in an attempt to recreate this beaut serendipity.
