Chalk another win up for the online superfans: Lorde has come clean about that onion ring-reviewing Instagram account and yep, it’s bloody hers alright.

The New Zealand pop star was on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in order to promote her album Melodrama (it’s just dropped and it’s, um, amazing), when trusty Jimbo brought up the wildly-circulating rumours that she had a side hustle as a circular fried snack connoisseur.
After a little bit of prevaricating, and seeming just a touch embarrassed, she came clean.

“Here’s the thing, I sort of naively didn’t realise it would be, like, ‘a thing’, that I was going to different places and trying the onion rings at each of those places.“Oh, God, it’s me, it’s me, it’s me.”
Honey, you’re one of the biggest pop stars of our generation. It most definitely was always going to be a thing.
Angel that she is, she shared some of the oniony expertise she picked up during her brief tenure as snaxpert:
“From my semi-professional adventures, I think that a batter works better than a crumb. It’s a bit lighter. And the other thing you can do to really make an onion ring magical is lightly pickle the onion before you batter it up. It takes on this acidity and it’s incredible.”
