Oscar Pistorius Given Reduced 6 Year Sentence For Reeva Steenkamp’s Murder

The trial of Oscar Pistorius has come to a conclusion, with the disgraced Paralympian being handed a six year sentence for the murder of his girlfriend on Valentine’s Day in 2013.

Pistorius denies claims that he killed Reeva Steenkamp in a rage and insists that he shot her because he mistook her for a burglar.
South Africa usually has a 15 year minimum sentence for murder but judge Thokozile Masipa ruled that the circumstances warranted a lighter sentence.
Pistorius served one year in jail of a five year sentence for culpable homicide but was freed last October, and has since been living under house arrest in Pretoria.
The case was then referred to the Supreme Court Of Appeals, who gave the 6 year sentence.

Pistorius still has the opportunity to appeal against the length of the already reduced sentence.
