There is absolutely no reason to assume that, somehow, aliens are at play in this but… well, I absolutely have. It’s aliens. I couldn’t even begin to posit a theory as to how or why, but I wholeheartedly believe that whatever has caused the closure and evacuation of a solar observatory in Sunspot, New Mexico is at the very least extraterrestrial-adjacent.

Local news station KVIA initially reported the closure last week, saying that the National Solar Observatory and a nearby United States Postal Service office were both closed on Thursday for ‘security reasons’. A spokesperson from the Association for Universities for Research in Astronomy told KVIA that they had decided to “temporarily vacate [the] facility as a precautionary measure“.
In an update a few days later, KVIA reported that USPS employees from the post office had all been transferred to another USPS office about half an hour away in neighbouring Cloudcroft. A spokesperson from the USPS told the station that they had no idea why they had been told to leave: “We were told on September 6th that we would be evacuated along with the surrounding area, we were not told why. “We were told just to be out of the area.”
A spokesperson from the company that co-manages the observatory declined to tell KVIA why the observatory had been evacuated and said that no timetable has been established for when people will be allowed back in. According to a local sheriff, the FBI had been in contact with local law enforcement.
