House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has officially called for the 25th Amendment to be invoked against President Donald Trump following yesterday’s storm on the US Capitol.
If the 25th Amendment isn’t invoked, Pelosi asserted that “Congress may be prepared to move forward with an impeachment.”
So basically, they want to remove Trump from power as quickly as possible, despite the fact that he’s only got a few days left in the top job.
Basically, the 25th Amendment gives the rest of the government an opportunity to remove the president from the top and for the vice president to take their place until a new president is decided and sworn in. This is usually in the case of death or severe illness, but can also be used if they are deemed unfit or “unable to discharge the powers and duties” of the office.
Pelosi’s call cited “seditious” acts regarding his role in encouraging yesterday’s attack n the US Capitol, and asked for Vice President Mike Pence (who is being not completely garbage for once in his political career) to invoke the 25th Amendment and take over the remainder of the presidency.

Throughout her speech on Friday (Thursday afternoon local time), Pelosi called Trump “a very dangerous person who should not continue in office. This is urgent, an emergency of the highest magnitude.”
“While it’s only 13 days left, any day can be a horror show for America,” she said.
Pelosi is just one of many Democratic politicians who have called for the 25th Amendment following yesterday’s events, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Cori Bush, Ted Lieu, Sylvia Garcia, Rashida Tlaib and many more.
According to CNN, a number of Republican leaders, who chose to remain anonymous, are in support of the push to invoke the 25th Amendment.
If it actually happens, Trump will make history as the first sitting president to be removed from office on these grounds, and the first time the amendment has been invoked since the Kennedy assassination in 1967.
