As with the Paris attacks in November, the international community has offered solidarity to Belgium in the wake of the terrorist attacks which killed 30 and injured many more.
Monuments around the world have lit up in the colours of the Belgian flag – black, yellow and red – to symbolise an international community against violence.
It mirrors similar gestures after the Paris attacks, when monuments including the Sydney Opera House were lit up red, white and blue – the colours of the French flag.
