Rashid was one of nine Pakistanis killed during the attack. Rashid’s son, 21-year-old Talha Naeem, was also killed.
Al Jazeera reports Rashid moved from Abbottabad to work in Christchurch as a teacher, while his son was a civil engineering graduate.
The family was in the process of planning Talha’s wedding, The Washington Post reports.
Speaking to the Khaleej Times, Rashid’s wife Ambreen described her husband as a hero.
“I still can’t understand or believe why and how this happened. But, I know that my husband is a hero,” Ambreen said.
“He always helped people and even in his last moments, he did what he could to help others.”
