There are many, many people in the LGBTQI community who deserve our love and respect and gratitude today, and we haven’t forgotten them, but right now we want to focus on Magda Szubanski.

First of all, this was her on Instagram last night, letting vulnerable members of the queer community that they’re not alone and are loved.

And today, this is her starting an honest-to-god dance party at Prince Alfred park in Sydney shortly after the ‘yes’ result was announced.

WE’RE NOT CRYING, YOU’RE CRYING. ACTUALLY, WE’RE CRYING TOO. LET ALL THE TEARS FLOW.

“Of course I’m the crybaby of the campaign,” she said later. “I was just crying the whole time. Very emotional, my glasses are filthy.”

She made a speech on stage, expressing her hope that this doesn’t divide queer people into ‘acceptable’ gay people, who are married, and ‘unacceptable’, unmarried gays.

“This is for all of us. No matter how we want to live our life, we must live as equal people in this country.”

She then followed up on a promise to dance an Irish jig on-stage if the postal survey returned a ‘yes’. MAGDA FOLLOWING THROUGH.

Do we deserve Magda Szubanski? Probably not, but we get this incredibly special person anyway.
