19 Y.O. Charged After Alleged Massacre Of 20 Roos And Joeys On NSW South Coast

A 19-year-old man has been charged with serious animal cruelty offences after allegedly killing 20 kangaroos with a ute on New South Wales’ South Coast on Saturday night.

NSW Police state the man was arrested yesterday afternoon under suspicion of deliberately ploughing through the animals in Tura Beach.

The teen was charged with torturing or beating an animal and causing death, and was bailed to appear at Bega Local Court on Tuesday, November 26.

Earlier, residents described the horror of finding the adult kangaroos and joeys lying dead on the road and a nature strip.

Tura Beach local Rob Evans told theIllawarra Mercury he was “outraged by this senseless piece of stupidity”, saying the culprit also put people at risk with their reckless driving.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports NSW Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service volunteer Janine Green is currently caring for three surviving joeys thought to have been involved in the incident.
