Justin Hemmes’ New Joint Is A Fancy-Ass Twist On Yr Local Chicken Shop

Things we can’t get behind: an unholy deconstructed Bunnings snag.
Things we can get behind: a takeaway chicken joint serving rotisserie meats, salads and sandwiches dished up by Ben Greeno, the culinary heavyweight behind Justin Hemmes‘ overhauled The Paddington.
The Chicken Shop will occupy a tiny shopfront next to the pub on Sydney’s Oxford Street and be the kind of place you swing by on the way home when you CBF making something out of last night’s nothing leftovers.
Opening for business this Thursday, the menu will ft. chooks cooked to perfection on imported French rotisseries and a rotating selection of meat and seafood, from ocean trout and pork belly to lamb rump and sweet, juicy glazed ham.
Choose your side – fresh salads bursting with avo, pumpkin seeds, chickpeas, green beans, feta and all that good stuff if you’re feeling virtuous, or hot chips / potato gratin if you’re not – and away you go.
But The Chicken Shop won’t just be an A+ dinner choice; according to Greeno himself, the lunchtime sambo will be a thing of beauty.
“I’ve actually wanted to do a sandwich place for a while,” he says. “We’re using bread from Brickfields which holds up really well – it doesn’t fall apart in your hands and is easy to eat.”
Inside, “think glazed leg ham with comte, Dijon mustard and pickle, hot chicken, jalapeno and pickled carrot or fish fingers with crushed edamame, yuzu and togarashi.”
Licking your chops yet? Same.

The Chicken Shop will be open from 12pm-9.30pm, Monday-Sunday at 382 Oxford St Paddington, NSW, 2021. Hit up Merivale for more info.
