J-Law Joins Meryl Streep In Slamming Weinstein For Naming Her In His Defence

Jennifer Lawrence has joined Meryl Streep in telling Harvey Weinstein to fuck right off in using her words to try and wiggle out of a class action lawsuit.

The long and short of it is that Weinstein is facing a sexual harassment lawsuit by six women. His lawyers are trying to convince a federal court in New York to not hear the lawsuit on the basis that the parameters are too vague, and would require hearing evidence from every woman the disgraced producer has ever come into contact with, whether or not they allege sexual harassment or assault. (Sorry, that was a mouthful.)

The 26-page memorandum of law named both Lawrence and Streep by name, using interviews both actresses had given about the scandal – in which they basically just stated that nothing untoward had happened to them, personally – as basis for why this lawsuit should essentially been thrown out.

Yesterday, Streep called Weinstein “pathetic and exploitative” for naming her in his defence, and now Lawrence has joined the chorus, telling “predator” Weinstein that “Time’ up”.

“Harvey Weinstein and his company are continuing to do what they have always done which is to take things out of context and use them for their own benefit. This is what predators do, and it must stop,” Lawrence said in a statement.

“For the record, while I was not victimised personally by Harvey Weinstein, I stand behind the women who have survived his terrible abuse and I applaud them in using all means necessary to bring him to justice whether through criminal or civil actions. Time’s up.”

FWIW – and possibly sensing that he’d really, really fucked up here – Weinstein apologised for this misstep, and announced via a spokesperson that he’d directed his legal counsel not to use any specific names in the future, “even where those actors have made previous statements.”

The lesson here is: don’t fuck with Jennifer. Don’t fuck with Meryl.
