“Halal Free BBQ” To Be Held In Cronulla Today, Police Prepare For Clashes

Yesterday, the NSW Supreme Court laid the banhammer on a planned rally to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the Cronulla Riots, on the grounds that it would stir up racial hatred.

Organiser Nicholas Folkes, a notorious far-right political figure, promised that he would not address any public assembly in Cronulla today, nor would he hold a rally.
He maintained, however, that as “a citizen and a free man”, he was within his rights to go to Cronulla and throw a barbeque. That planned event, described as a “halal-free BBQ”, is kicking off in the beachside suburb as we speak.

Earlier this morning, prior to the event, Folkes took to his Facebook page, and posted a video claiming that he woke up to find that the tyres of his ute had been slashed by his “political opponents.”

“I’ve already hired a car so we’ll see you down there,” he said at the end of the video.
In a follow-up, posted a short time later, Folkes addressed his fellow “patriots”, saying he was on his way to Cronulla. He has since posted several more, which show a pig on a spit being set up.
According to News Corp, police in the area are already on alert, and are preparing for a possible violent clash. A NSW Police representative said:
“Police will not tolerate unlawful behaviour or any action that risks the safety of others; anyone caught breaking the law will be swiftly arrested and charged.”
