Musician George Michael has died aged 53, with his publicist reporting that he has “passed away peacefully at home”.

The publicist stated the following:

It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period. The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage.

Michael, who was living in Oxfordshire, England, is perhaps best known as one half of British pop duo Wham!, and for his 1987 debut solo album ‘Faith’. In his nearly four-decade career, the London-born artist sold more than 100 million albums – and earlier this year, was reported to have been working on a new album.

No further information is available at this stage, but we’ll update this story as it develops.
