Fishy Lighting Solutions

UK based design duo Scabetti go under the sea in this ocean-inspired light installation titled “Shoal”. A sure way to inject some surrealism into an otherwise drab living room – we hear Poseidon has one hanging in the den.

They explain it as “A mass of fine bone china fish carrying delicate sculpted detail, circle a central beam of light, creating a captivating cylindrical form. Each fish is lit not only by reflected light from its neighbours but also from within, with the light passing through the delicate translucent china body.”

It reminds me of Mathematician Steven Strogatz’s TED talk on the synchronicity inherent in schools of fish and flocks of birds. Definitely worth watching if you have the time…
