Facebook’s New Feature Can Show You If Your Friends In Nepal Are Safe

Mark Zuckerberg broadcasted on Saturday that due to the tragic earthquake in Nepal, Facebook would be implementing the ‘Safety Check‘ feature, which was announced in October
The feature will pick up on whether you are near the site of a natural disaster (either by the city you’ve listed, or by the ‘Nearby Friends’ feature), and give you the option to tell your Facebook friends that you are safe.
If you have friends near the affected site, you can check to see if they’ve marked themselves as safe. Safety Check for the Nepal Earthquake looks like this:
In a Facebook post, Zuckerberg sent his thoughts to the people affected by the earthquake in Nepal after explaining how the Safety Check feature could help:
“When disasters happen, people need to know their loved ones are safe. It’s moments like this that being able to connect really matters.”

You can head to Facebook’s Safety Check here: http://www.facebook.com/safetycheck/nepalearthquake/, or type ‘Safety Check’ into the search bar when you are logged into Facebook.
