Cookie was found in top shape in a non-operational area of the airport and will soon be reunited with his humans Jessica and Jack Thomas.

The Thomas’, who are in the process of moving overseas, had sent Cookie and their dog Rambo to live with family in Cairns. Rambo made it safely but Cookie’s crate arrived empty. And to make matters worse, Virgin Australia didn’t even call the Thomas’ to inform them of their missing cat. The couple had to find out on their own after they made a shit tonne of frantic calls to the airline.

It’s still unclear just how Cookie escaped from his travel crate. However, the Thomas’ have since been told that the cat’s travel crate should have been zip-tied closed in front of them. The couple told 9News that this was not the case.

The flight was booked through pet travel group JetPets, but the company pretty much washed their hands and said they weren’t involved in the crating or lodgement process.

“We are pleased to have found Cookie safe and sound after an extensive search and we look forward to reuniting him with his owners,” Virgin Australia said in a statement to PEDESTRIAN.TV.

“We will continue to investigate how this incident occurred and we will review and update our processes accordingly.”
