As the dust settles on this incredibly poisonous bullshit going on in the Liberal partyroom (and the nation at large), an inevitable question is popping up: who is going to run for Malcolm Turnbull‘s old seat? Well, we have one name already: Christine Forster, the sister of former prime minister Tony Abbott who clashed with her brother over same-sex marriage.
Seems she’s hit the skids pretty quickly on this, as a number of journalists shot out confirmations at roughly the same time.

That would definitely be interesting. Wentworth is one of Australia’s wealthiest electorates, and is an incredibly safe Liberal seat. But it does also capture some very socially progressive suburbs, and it’ll be interesting to see how the electorate responds to Turnbull’s knifing.
Forster – a Sydney city councillor – was a prominent voice in the marriage equality debate, even as Abbott fought hard on the other side. We all know who won, based on the wonderful photos of him being forced to grin and enjoy a same-sex wedding.
Forster would most likely be running for the Liberals if indeed she went for it. There’ll be a lot more of this over the coming weeks and months.
