Brisbane Mum Amends Transgender Teen’s Birth Announcement

Providing much-needed proof that sometimes people are actually okay, a Brisbane mum has made a heartwarming show of support for her son, who recently told her he was transgender.
In the ‘Births’ section of the Courier Mail earlier this week, Jimboomba mother Yolanda Bogert ran the following retraction:
“In 1995 we announced the arrival of our sprogget Elizabeth Anne as a daughter. Oops our bad. We would like to present our wonderful son – Kai Bogert.”
The story has since hit a nerve, making headlines around the world as people commend Bogert for her A+ act of supportive parenting. As she later told the Courier Mail, however, what she did was a “no brainer.”
“I needed to show my son I support him 100 per cent and wanted to let the world know that,” she told the paper. “It is all very new to us. Kai just told me a few days ago that he no longer wanted to live as a girl.”
Kai himself was relieved by his mum’s openness, saying “I am so happy with what she has done. This last week has changed everything for me – I am still me but I am more me than I was a few days ago and feel free.”
“I have not had any hormones or made any decisions about gender reassignment surgery. “Nothing like that yet. These are early days but so far I have never been happier.”
Consider your heart warmed.
